Light of Mind Practitioner – Dramatherapist -MANTRA therapist – FTAN practitioner (Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa) Creative Expressive Practitioner
Light of Mind Practitioner Sam has a passion and enthusiasm for supporting children and adults alike, utilising a combination of therapeutic methods alongside a caring person-centred approach. Sam recognises that therapy should not be ‘one size fits all’, and understands how essential it is to develop individualised approaches for everyone she meets. Sam combines creative practices with cognitive analytical therapeutic interventions.
Sam is a neurodiverse practitioner with lived experience of Anorexia Nervosa. She has a specialist interest in working with young people and adults with Eating Disorders, ADHD and/or Autism.
Being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, Sam understands the challenges and complexities that occur when navigating systems that have not been designed for neurodiversity. Sam is passionate about providing safe, supportive spaces that can be adapted to everyone’s needs. Sam provides an empathic, patient, and compassionate environment to encourage a positive therapeutic journey for all.
Sam is an avid Aerial Artist, who understands how essential movement can be for mental health and wellbeing. Sam has extensive experience of supporting clients who have to redefine their relationship with exercise and their bodies, as part of their recovery journey. Sam is currently combining her love of aerial arts and knowledge/experience in eating disorders recovery to develop education materials for aerial and pole dance studios. The aim is to support instructors/coaches in the recognition of eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa. With a goal to encourage open conversations about eating difficulties, which may impact on physical health and wellbeing within these sports.
Sam has a spirit for travel, and has a history of living and working in China for over 4 years. This experience means that Sam understands the emotional and practical difficulties that can occur when living in/moving to a foreign environment. This has provided a level of understanding when working with people who may be displaced or have moved away from their home country.
Sam was raised in Leeds and now lives in North Yorkshire with her partner. She splits her working week between Light of Mind and working The North Yorkshire CAMHS community Eating Disorder team.
